SUMMER - Heart & Small Intestine - Balancing your Spirit

This evening we will be learning how to balance the Fire Element - this element is made up of the small intestine and the heart. These two organs "digest and assimilate". The former digests and assimilates our food, and the latter - our world. What happens in one coordinating organ affects the function of the other. So when we improve the quality of our digestion we can see issues relating to the heart (from a Chinese medicine theory perspective) improve. These include: ADHD, anxiety,panic attacks, OCD, insomnia, where it is difficult to fall asleep and dream disturbed sleep. We will also talk about heart heath in terms of Western diagnosis as well - so cholesterol and blood pressure management as well as palpitations. The lifestyle suggestions given here will be ones of "consolidation", since the Fire element energy can lead us to conditions that show up as a reaction to doing too much, such as autoimmunity. Many delicious foods and herbs nourish and consolidate this system and we will learn about them all. The health of the small intestine relies on the proper gut-flora balance, so we will discuss different pro-biotic foods and after a tongue exam on participants, I will let each know which ones are best for their constitution. The wrong probiotic foods can upset digestion as easily as the correct ones correct it. If we learn how to consolidate during the Summer then getting grounded as we will be doing in the following season, will come naturally and easily.
We will be enjoying a fermented food and a tea that will help with focus during class.
