I am sure you have noticed that we have five seasons on our Chinese medicine calendar. This is our "bonus" 5th season, not recognized much in the West. It equates to what some refer to as "Indian Summer", Summer is over. Children are back in school. The weather is still warm but there is a clue that it will be getting colder soon as seen by the drop in the temperatures in the early morning and evening and a few leaves may begin to fall. This is the season where the energy neither goes outward nor inward. It is place of balance. It is important to be grounded, reliable and assertive and have strong, healthy boundaries, and this is the season to work on these skills. The emotion of worry is held in this system, I will talk about how this relates to setting and upholding healthy boundaries and I will give skills around doing so, so we can dispel this completely useless emotion that wears down our health so much, often by driving cravings and addictions. The organ system we tonify during this season is the Spleen, Pancreas and Stomach. The issues we will be discussing here are blood sugar regulation and diabetes, optimal digestive health, prolapses and sugar cravings. We will discuss the foods that nourish this system and after a tongue exam of participants I can recommend whether they should consume more raw or cooked foods. Effective herbal remedies for blood sugar control and ones to help with the side-effects of Western medicines for diabetes will be given.
We will be enjoying a sweet vegetable soup and a tea to nourish this system during class.
