In Chinese medicine, we look to Winter as a time to come inside, slow down activity and rest. If we do this we will be ready to regain a healthy activity level once Spring returns....or in the morning. If we wake up not feeling rested, then it is this system that we need to restore. The Adrenals are like a credit card from which we borrow energy when we go through chronic or acute stress. They are not meant to be relied on daily, as many Americans do, and are actually praised for doing in our culture. Signs that that the Kidney/Bladder/Adrenal system needs nourishment are: frequent nighttime waking (innability to sustain a whole night's sleep), feeling tired - but wired, weak or painful knees and ankles, frequent bladder and/or urinary tract infections, incontinence, paralyzing fearful thoughts. This system houses the emotion of Fear. I will be discussing how to dispel this emotion so we can drop irrational fears and move forward in our lives using Chinese medicine theory. Foods and herbs supportive of this system will all be discussed.
We will be enjoying a bowl of miso soup and an adrenal supportive tea during class.
